The promised update is finally here, NK.com v6.66 is a reality.
For our readers this means nothing (yet), for our translators that means you can (finally) put your translations online again.
How to do this in a few easy steps:
Log in
- You'll be given the url, a username and password by NK, change this password the first time you log in (next to 'My account' click 'edit')
- Clicking 'Translation index' will show you the list of articles you can translate
- Clicking 'Translation team' will show you a list of people assigned to translations in the same language
- Pages that have been seperated into parts (e.g. theThirdAndFinalBeast) will be visible to you part by part
To start writing a translation
- Simply click 'create' next to the article of your choice
- You will be redirected to the translation editting page
To edit a translation (at a later point)
- Click the 'edit' button next to the article of your choice
- After editting an article you will have to click the 'publish' link in order to make your changes visible on thte main site.
- If you want to spread your edits over some time, click the publish button after you're happy with all changes. Your working copy will stay intact accross sessions.
Editting an article
You'll see a form with two text fields.
- title: this is the title of the article which will be displayed in the titlebar of the browser
- content: this is the content of the article
- Both fields are raw HTML
About HTML
"HTML, an initialism of HyperText Markup Language, is the predominant markup language for Web pages. It provides a means to describe the structure of text-based information in a document — by denoting certain text as links, headings, paragraphs, lists, and so on — and to supplement that text with interactive forms, embedded images, and other objects."
I recommend copy-pasting the HTML code of the original article and replacing the original text with yours. (A link to the source code is available from the editting form, click the page name). The part of the code you need is marked; you should copy everything between <!-- PAGE CONTENT START HERE --> and <!-- PAGE CONTENT ENDS HERE -->.
What you should remember is:
- A few characters have special meanings in HTML, replace them by these codes:
< → < (less than)
> → > (greater than)
& → & (ampersand)
" → " (quotation) - Other special characters (funny à's and é's, chinese characters, ...) can be inserted without a problem
