I'll agree that the "OMG gaga is the world's greatest genius" hype has gotten far out of hand (but then again, what hype doesn't get out of hand?).
I am a pretty big fan, but I can honestly say that the only reason why Gaga tends to get elevated over Britney and Christina and the rest of the pop scene is because Gaga actually writes/creates her own stuff.
Now to us, that doesn't seem very impressive because we're used to bands writing their own music. But to the pop music world (a world where all music and lyrics are written by producers and all career moves are plotted out by a team of PR reps) the idea of someone actually creating on their own is an incredible, one-of-a-kind oddity. She writes her own lyrics, co-writes all her music, oversees production of her albums and creates her own concepts which is a monumental feat in the world of pop where 8 out of 10 songs are written by that douchebag Timbaland.
Like I said, I like her. She's got a good voice, can program pretty damn well and knows how to write a vocal hook like few others can, but she's certainly no goddess of electronica and definitely gets over-hyped by fans who have never imagined in their lives that a blonde, female pop star could actually know how to create music on her own....Coming up NEXT on Sick Sad World

.....wtf, that was terrible. not a big fan in the first place, but after watching her music videos for her first album.... they were understandable/watchable,at least for me. and her working with someone as talentless as beyonce is pretty sad on her part, she's lost cool points on this one.
also someone earlier mentioned that she is using these releases to get attention and penetrate the mainstream.... why the hell would she do that? aside form the people on here who like her, the vast majority of her fans ive talked to in person are some pretty big dimwits, my guess are the same who listen to lil wayne, t pain, brittany spears, christina, etc. my point with that was if she changes her style down the road and gets more electronic or darker or whatever she changes in her music and its less dancable and not in the same form as much, but is more focused on the message etc, then obviously her getting attention from majority of people in the mainstream would have been fruitless since she would no longer be "in" with the rest of pop culture and people would not enjoy her because she wouldnt be feeding them the same regurgitated shit thats constantly being shoved down there throats by every other popular/simplistic band/artist.

Gaga really seem to be inspired by a lot of the same things as Manson btw... Polaroid cameras, extreme fashion, David Bowie, Andy Warhol, drugs, martyrism in the media, andogynity, creative control, 'the American dream', sexuality.... etc.
In five years I bet Gaga is a respected artist and far from mainstream pop. To me it looks like she just used it on her first album like Manson did with alternative glam hardrock/pop on Mechaincal Animals. I wouldn't be surprised if 'The Fame' was just a smart way to penetrate the mainstream with som modern pop art and get under peoples skin for some more serious music later.
