I think you guys should be more paranoid about this. It's not like Interscope isn't going to try and profit from this, and we don't know what the conditions of the split were. How would you like to see the release of a batch of unapproved Manson compilations, or the rerelease of Antichrist Superstar with crappy packaging and new 'retrospective' liner notes etc? Perhaps Manson's foretelling "Guess I missed the sign that said it was a fire sale" just might come true.
Or how about this fun situation? Another band that I love Opeth, split with thier longtime label a few years ago to join Roadrunner and when they did they found out that they couldn't use a vast number of thier songs released under the previous label on thier upcoming live DVD. If you think Interscope isn't going to try to exploit Manson's work for a profit now that they don't have to worry about appeasing him, you're kidding yourself. If anybody is going to be raped it's the body of work we've come to love and respect.
It honestly makes me shudder. I really hope Manson has all of his rights in order.
Subsequently though, this may prompt the release of countless materials that the label has been suppressing for years (such as the short film "Groupie"). But Then this also could be a coffin nail to other things like the DVD reissues of DttW and GiitTV, or any upcoming Rape of the World DVD. Or worse a RotW DVD without any of Manson's input or approval.
I'm pretty sure Manson knows Interscope is going to continue to financially rape and steal from him and exploit his work from 1994-2009 for profit - because they've been doing it for the last 10 years or so.
Though I have a hard time figuring out whether or not Interscope intentionally dropped the ball on promoting High End of Low so it would perform badly in sales and they could drop him from the label, or if Manson himself refused to promote the record so he could give them a reason to finally release him from his contract. It's no secret he's been fed up with the label for quite some time now. Ultimately, this is a good thing.
What he's going to do next, however, remains to be seen. Should he go with a new label that'll pay him more and give him more artistic freedom (doubtful), or should he go the Trent Reznor route of independent releases and online/touring/merch sales only? We all know labels are going the way of the dinosaur. But, despite Trent's success in online releases, there's still no profitable business model for selling music right now.
Above all else, Manson needs a management/promotional team that will promote the shit out of whatever he does to all forms of media. Because whatever Interscope had him set up with wasn't working.
